Project Overview
Two adjoining first-floor bedrooms in this Sutton home each had a redundant chimney breast taking up valuable space. The owners wanted cleaner room shapes before redecorating and fitting new bedroom furniture.
The Brief
The brief was to remove both chimney breasts, complete the work under Building Control and leave the two rooms properly repaired and plastered rather than stopping at the structural stage.
The Challenge
Although the work was limited to the first floor, both bedrooms and the access route needed careful protection. The two removals also had to be coordinated so that temporary support and inspections could be completed efficiently without opening more of the house than necessary.
Our Solution
We isolated and protected the working areas, installed the required temporary support and removed each chimney breast in a controlled sequence. After inspection, we closed the voids, repaired the wall and ceiling junctions and applied a fresh skim to the affected surfaces.
The Outcome
Both bedrooms now have straighter, more useful layouts with extra space for wardrobes, beds and storage. The rooms were handed back clean and ready for decoration, and the Building Control completion certificate was issued.
